Y’all, my favorite season of the year is finally here! Nope, not fall. I’m talking about football season! Like the good “southern” girl that I am, I was raised on football and they were always a cause for celebration in our home. Cue lots of food and family time in front of the television (or radio). My love for football only magnified when I went to my first WVU football game as a Freshman in college.
Now, when I was a freshman and honestly even a sophomore, game day fashion was not nearly as exciting as it is now. By the time I was in my senior year, the southern game day style for football games had exploded into something you really needed your own separate wardrobe for. Gone are the days of the simple college t-shirt and jeans. When I moved to New York, I was in for a bit of culture shock when it comes to football games. They definitely don’t do it the same as in the south. However, in true football school fashion, I still try my best to incorporate fun and fashionable game day styles into my post-grad wardrobe. While I may have traded blue and gold for black and gold, here are some of my favorite places to shop for game day fashion!
Forever 21 is a great place for those of you on a college budget. The store is typically filled with your basic college colors (red, gold, blue, etc.) making it super easy to build a great game day outfit for less. Forever 21 is also a great place to get some cheap denim basics such as high-waisted shorts or a denim skirt to pair with a DIY cropped shirt from your school.
I just recently started shopping at Riff Raff but I love their stuff. If you’re looking for a more unique take on college game day fashion, especially if you’re an SEC girl, then you will love Riff Raff’s collection of game day pieces. I’m a huge fan of graphic tees which is why I picked up this “Beat Everyone” t-shirt for the first Army football game of the season and I love the way this outfit turned out. PS: If you’re a Friday Night Lights fan, they have a couple themed shirts as well.
If you’re looking for a unique shirt, Etsy is the place to go. You can find all sorts of unique shirts from your college’s logo and mascot to fun game day graphic tees. If you’re like me and can’t DIY to save your life, Etsy is a great place to snag one of those distressed, cut up tees for game day.
I've recently found myself obsessed with boutique style clothing stores and Francesca's is one of those chain store that has the boutique vibe that is all the rage these days. I was struggling to find an outfit for the WVU vs VT game and was so happy when I found this navy blue romper in the clearance section for $20! Top it off with some cowboy boots from my closet and statement earrings and you've got yourself one heck of a game day outfit!
It should come as no surprise that I shop at Target for like literally everything. Game day is no different. From crop tops to t-shirt dresses, Target has pretty much something for everyone. Especially if your school colors incorporate red or black. If you’re in a pinch for a cute game day outfit for an especially hot day, swing by your local Target.
Don’t want to spend $60 on a customized game day shirt? Your local Goodwill is bound to have at least one of your college’s shirts or colors within their racks. There are all kinds of ideas floating around on Pinterest and Instagram so grab a shirt and a pair of scissors and start DIYing!
