Hey y’all! My name is Darrian - I’m a twenty-five year old bride-to-be who seems to have her life pretty well put together. But I'm going to let you in on a little secret: I don't. Read on to find out all the juicy secrets about my blogging journey and what I hope you'll all get from sharing my stories on this blog!
I began blogging in college and it was my dream to make a living off of it. It wasn’t until I had graduated that I realized the power of blogging. I wrote countless posts about my battle with depression and anxiety and my world changed. I finally felt a sense of belonging and purpose. My blog grew with me as I graduated college, made my first move to a full-time internship in Washington, D.C., and then again to a career in New York state. My readers connected with me as I grew in my relationship with God, my new relationship (to Justin and the Army), and tackled my anxiety and depression.
But the doubts and anxiety slowly crept in. I lost myself in the blogging world, who my audience was and most importantly, why I was blogging to begin with. When I realized how much blogging was forcing me to compare myself to others (their looks, their views, their incomes) I made the decision to stop blogging altogether. But my desire to create content was too strong an urge to resist. I began vlogging with my then boyfriend and quickly made the jump to a second YouTube channel where I found a new passion for sharing fashion and lifestyle content with the world.
Fast forward a few months and here we are. But I bet you’re asking yourself how, aren’t you? At my graduate school graduation, my mother presented me a copy of Lean In for Graduates with the most thoughtful note that left me in tears. There was one line of her letter that stuck out to me the most:
“What would you do if you were not afraid?”
It was then, reading this note curled up in bed after an exhausting weekend of travel, that I realized what was holding me back: ME. I have spent too many years crippled by my anxieties and fears. I never wanted to work a typical 9-5 job. I wanted to WRITE. Anytime I was ever asked “What do you want to do when you grow up?” my answer was always the same. Be a writer.
So here I am. BEING a writer. I know the blogging world can be full of picture perfect lives and stories but I promise that here on this site we’re going to get real and raw. If you take anything from reading my blog I hope it’s the confidence to live your life unapologetically as yourself. The door is open, so come on in!
Things I want this blog to be:
- A resource for twenty-somethings
- A source of positive inspiration for everyone
- A support system for those in similar situations
- An open place to share thoughts and ideas, no matter how different
- A (not so perfect) and REAL guide to life
A few more snippets about me…
My fiance and I met on Tinder. I love Shakespeare and my favorite novel is The Great Gatsby. I have two fur-children name (appropriately) Gatsby and Hemingway who will grace the pages of this blog (and who often steal the show on our vlog channel). In 2018 we’ll be starting our journey with the Army. Location TBD.
Got questions? I’m your girl!
Want to know my favorite color, ice cream of choice, or something more serious like how to survive (and thrive) in college? Literally, ask me anything and I’ll do my best to answer.
Shout out to my amazing friend Melissa for the pictures.
